Thats a cool background there, I must say. This app works only on 3 networks in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, Denmark, Sweden, Austria, Australia and Hong-Kong. Now, thats one more reason for us to consider shifting our base to the UK! 🙂

From what we make out of this application, our friends at Skype seem to have defined the access points  only for 3G networks of 3 in Europe and elsewhere. While we are glad to finally see an official client of Skype on 5800s, we are (or rather forced ) to rely on 3rd Party IM Apps for all our Skype needs for the time being. Do let me know how this client fares on your 5800 (if you are one of the ones!  kno wat I mean).

I will not be shy away in saying it’s better than Opera Mini. Infact I quiet liked it. I believe it’s the best choice for surfing the web. What remains is the stability, which on the first look comes across as quiet stable on heavy sites. But ofcourse time will tell. For now it boasts a full finger touch UI and renders the web as it is intented using the state-of-the-art webkit browser engine. V30 Firmware Reaches 5800 XpressMusic

So, the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic has received yet another update. Moreover, it seems to have bought in some issues instead of fixing existing ones.

The new version is now available as an OTA (Over the Air) update for some specific product codes. Those who are not comfortable with the OTA procedure, might want to check out the far scarier (we’re kidding!) NSU update where this firmware version would be made available very soon.

The current update is, however, a very small one, bringing with it some minor bug fixes. Be prepared to be disappointed if you were expecting a sea change in the way your 5800 functions, with this update. This, however, is still a recommended one, just for the bug fixes and performance improvements. Before you tread any further, may we also add that some users did face some issues post this update as detailed here. However, this seems to be a one-off case at this point of time.

As always, it is recommended that you back up all your stuff prior to updating the firmware.

Radioactive Detector for Nokia 5800

Instructions:

Hold the 5800 upside down, no detection, more you tilt the 5800 upwards, there will be more detection, by holding it completely vertical, head up, you will have the maximum detection with a large audio alert. Be careful not to switch the 5800 to the left under penalty of screen rotation, a problem that I have not yet resolved. At any time, allows the EXIT button to exit the application.  Adjust the sound with 5800 sound buttons.

The idea of this software is not only a quick flashlight (that you can have on a hardware key or icon, so that you have an easy access), but also many other uses.

So I made a semi-hidden touchscreen menu that gives access to all these light applications:

– LAMP, a simple white screen.
– Strobe, to call for attention (or hypnotize someone ?_o).
– Fader, with fade-in/fade-out light, like a lighthouse.
– SOS, that spells s.o.s in morse code.
– Disco, random bright colorful lights, like a disco.
– PEN, in which you can draw temporary light forms.
– Starlight animation(heavy on CPU).
– LOVELYGHT, just a visual test, also good for the loved ones.
– LIGHTER , for fun on a concert, as you can see on the picture.
– Match, pretty much like lighter.
– Candle, pretty much like match, with a twist.
– Eye of mordor, for geeks like me.
– LightSaber with sounds. Press top, middle or bottom of the screen for diferent effects, or use your keypad.
– Android boot animation

– Customize, only for some models that dont light up on the opening, still with bugs.

Device Info widget for Nokia 5800

DeviceInfo widget for Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and the N97  is the first widget release by moubail.com. The widget is based on script samples found at Forum Nokia Wiki. The widget is pure HTML/CSS/Javascript and is released as an example to motivate other users to create a widget of their own. What does it do then? The DeviceInfo widget displays more or less essential data about the device it’s running on. It’s a handy way to digg up the phone’s IMEI code, wireless MAC address and the current firmware version. This release is BETA and has been tested only the Nokia 5800. There is an update system built-in meaning you should be able to update it easily to a newer version – should we ever make one. A new application for S60 5th Edition which allows you to control your PC via bluetooth. All you need is a 5800 XpressMusic and bluetooth enabled computer/laptop. The software is absolutely freeware.

Step 1) First of you need to install Phython 1.9.5 on your phone memory.

The application is really easy to use. Basically you have three options only.

* The media-remote, which can be managed by any player on your computer.
– (The available buttons are: “play / pause”, “next”, “prev”, “mute” and volume buttons.)

* The ARROW keys Remote, Up, Down,Left, Right, Esc and Enter can be used to control many applications on PC including games.

* The Mouse Remote, phone can be used as a mouse by using the touchscreen

Everything works fine bedside of the ”touchpad”. Selecting files is quite hard. Maybe it can be improved in further versions.

Anyhow, On my XP NETbook and my 5800 everything worked fine, so did on the below seen video….
